Samuel ¨Sam¨ Lester Brown, age 66, of Twin City, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Twin City Methodist Church with Rev. Randall Smith and Mr. Joey Bohannon officiating. The family received friends Monday, June 24, from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at Twin City Methodist Church. Interment followed in Noonday Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Nick Krauss, Jeffrey Brewer, Logan Tapley, Luke Tapley, Evan Tapley and Greg Johnson.
Sam was born August 11, 1957, in Augusta, to the late Alvah Brown, Jr. and Mabel Allmond Brown. He attended public school at Emanuel County Institute before beginning studies at Georgia Military College. After Sam’s high school graduation at GMC in 1975, he continued for the first two years of his university studies. From there, he transferred to Georgia Southern University to complete his bachelor's degree and join the United States Army as an officer. A lifelong learner, Sam took a pause from his military career during his children's school years and returned to Georgia Southern to acquire his bachelor's degree in education, after which he taught high school English at West Laurens High School in Dublin. He remained in the Army Reserves during this time, and following the events of 9/11, was called to active duty where he completed two tours before retiring for the final time. Sam’s time in the Army carried him across the globe many times over during his 39-year career. A proud Army Ranger, he retired as a chaplain's assistant with the 5th Special Forces Group. Sam loved his country, and its defense was his lifelong mission. His heart however, remained in Canoochee. In Sam’s retirement, he built his cabin in the woods that he had spent his life dreaming of on the land that he loved, the land his father farmed. A highly proficient marksman, he had an unwavering passion for firearms, the outdoors, and anything with a fast engine. Sam lived for the sound of shots hitting their targets and the freedom of feeling the wind on his back as he rode down the winding country roads. Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Tom Brown.
Mr. Brown is survived by his loyal wife Kathy; son, Ian and daughter-in-law Céline; and daughter, Jenni and son-in-law Michael, who will forever miss their "Floyd"; and grandchildren, Liam, Abigail, Kyle and Asher, who will dearly miss their beloved "Pap".
