The Forest-Blade travels to the Black Hills

Posted

Kathie Barton and Shirley Boulineau spent ten days exploring the Black Hills. They visited Cheyenne, Wyoming and Deadwood, South Dakota where Wild Bill Hickock was killed while playing poker. He and Calamity Jane are buried at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery there. The trip continued to Rapid City, South Dakota, traveling along the Needles Highway into Montana to visit Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt. Rushmore. Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota was the next stop. They visited the Bighorn Mountains and enjoyed Yellowstone National Park, seeing Yellowstone Falls, the Old Faithful Geyser and through the Grand Teton National Park. While in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, they enjoyed a scenic raft trip down the historic Snake River. The trip continued into Idaho and Salt Lake City, Utah, where they visited Temple Square. During the trip, they got to see bison, burros, pronghorn deer, moose, wild horses and hundreds of prairie dogs. They enjoyed wonderful musical shows and ate for too much cowboy food.
