Swainsboro downs ECI in rivalry

The Swainsboro Tigers were ready to go this week as they played their inter-county rival ECI. They brought this rivalry back last season after not playing for four years. Swainsboro won the last matchup 41-12 at ECI. The Tigers were heavy favorites in this game as they came in sporting a 4-0 record while ECI was sporting a 1-2 record. Despite their record, they did upset Dublin last week, so this was no cupcake for Swainsboro. The Tigers were also coming off of their toughest matchup of the season against Dodge. This one proved to be a good night for the Tigers offense as their offensive line opened holes on the way to running for 315 yards and four touchdowns. It was a heavy dose of Jordon Williams (152 yards, 3 TDs) and Qin Brown (107, 1 TD). Bryson Tarver played quarterback going 2-2 with 41 yards, Jerrod Steward had both receptions. The defense was stifling once again allowing only 12 ECI points. 12 points is the most they have allowed in a game all year, which is insane. Coach Roberts gave praise to both teams saying, “I thought it was a really hard-fought game for both sides. This county has a lot to be proud of and thankful for with the young men that were out there representing their respective schools.”

The Tigers have their hands full this coming week as they host Irwin County. The last time these two met was for a chance to go to the State title, Swainsboro winning the matchup 22-21 on a last second field goal. This game is going to be a war, so Tiger fans need to pack “The Den” and make it loud!
