Lady Dawgs in the heart of region schedule

The ECI softball team has mostly played out their non-region schedule, and by publishing date have played at least one game of their two games against region opponents.

The Lady Dawgs lost just their second region game in the last 3 years a couple of weeks ago to Screven Co. ECI, Screven Co. and Metter currently lead the region with one loss each.

ECI played a double header region game on August 20 against McIntosh Co. in Twin City. The Lady Dawgs made short work of the Buccaneers defeating them in 3 innings 15-0 in the first game and sent them back to Darien with a 17-1 loss in 4 innings in the second game.

Freshman Charley Mitchell toed the rubber, allowing a total of just 2 hits, pitching both games while striking out 11 Buccaneer batters.

Multiple hitters during the double header were Kayanna Thompson and Abbey Marsh with 4 hits, Kinley Grimes, Lola Walden and Jayna Kearson 3 hits. Senaria Hillman, Jenna Grace Roberson and Mitchell ended the two game set with 2 hits each.

On August 20 ECI traveled to Sylvania to take on Screven Co. The Gamecocks edged the Dawgs in a pitchers’ duel 2-1. The two pitchers allowed a total of just 8 hits during the game.

Mary Katherine Durden pitched for the Lady Dawgs allowing just 4 hits. Abbey Marsh 2 hits, Dot Russel and Kayanna Thompson had the 4 hits against the Gamecocks.

The Lady Dawgs played in their last scheduled tournament on Saturday, August 24, taking on two 5A teams in the Coastal Georgia Classic at Georgia Southern.

ECI lost both games to the larger schools, dropping a close one to Effingam 6-5 before losing to Greenbriar 9-1.

Effingam and ECI both had 10 hits in the first game with Jayna Kearson blasting a homerun at the Lady Eagles’ Field to lead at the plate along with Senaria Hillman also with 2 hits.

The Lady Dawgs had just 3 hits during the game with Kearson hitting her second HR of the tournament along with Lola Walden and Abbey Marsh getting the other two hits.

Monday August 26 had the Bulldogs in Lyons taking on Toombs Co. ECI avenged an early season loss to the Bulldogs with a 7-2 win.

Extra bases was on tap for the Lady Dawg batters with 3 triples and 3 doubles. Kayanna Thompson showed her power and speed on the bases with her 3 triples. Kinley Grimes hit 2 doubles while Senaria had the other double.

Mary Katherine Durden held Toombs to just 2 hits, no walks while striking out four.

Tuesday, ECI traveled to Portal for another region match-up. The Lady Dawgs came home from the Turpentine Capital with a 12-0 win in 4 innings against the Panthers.

Jayna Kearson’s 3 hits, 2 dbls, and Mary Katherine Durden 2 hits led the Dawgs at the plate. Durden also held the Panthers to just one hit during the 4 inning game.
