Sherrod seeking Probate/Magistrate Court Judge position

Posted

With the help of the great people of Emanuel County, I am seeking the positions of Probate Court Judge and Magistrate Court Judge. As a lifelong resident, Emanuel County has taught me many valuable lessons that I still carry with me to this day, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to give back to the place that I have called home my entire life.

After graduating from ECI in 2012, East Georgia State College welcomed me with open arms. After two years at East Georgia, I transferred to Armstrong State University (Now Georgia Southern) where I received a bachelor’s degree in both Criminal Justice and Political Science. After strongly considering a career in law enforcement, I made the decision to attend Georgia State University’s School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2020, in the midst of Covid, I graduated law school and was able to come back to my home, Emanuel County, and began work as an Assistant District Attorney in the Middle Judicial Circuit, which included prosecuting cases in Emanuel County. After almost three years with the Middle Circuit District Attorney’s Office, I swapped over to working with Jess Clifton, handling all major cases in the East-Middle Region Public Defender’s Office—which covers approximately twenty counties stretching from Washington County to Charlton County down on the Georgia-Florida Line. Working both sides of the aisle, I have the unique position of seeing both sides of the criminal justice system. In the course of these jobs, I have also worked with the Emanuel County Probate Court on several occasions on a pro bono basis. As demonstrated in the below paragraph, my family raised me to not be a stranger to hard work. My aim is to provide Emanuel County citizens with the best services possible. I have no doubts regarding my ability to do just that.

My goal has always been to gather enough knowledge and experience to make a positive and lasting impact for the citizens of Emanuel County. Growing up, God blessed me with an amazing family who ultimately raised me to be the person I am today. That is, someone who strives to help as many people as possible. My Dad, Jim Sherrod, instilled the ideals of Hard Work in me at a young age not by his words, but by his actions. Growing up, I watched my Dad work multiple jobs just to make sure that our family always lived a comfortable life. While I didn’t realize it at the time, watching him work and always lending a helping hand showed me just how important being a public servant is. To date, he now proudly serves on the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners. Similarly, my Mom, Bobbie Sherrod, demonstrated to me the grit and determination it takes to be a mother of six, while at the same time bettering herself by attending Georgia Southern University to obtain her degree to become a teacher. Today, she proudly boasts a Masters and Specialists degree. While impressive enough, her ability to do this while being a full-time stay at home mother is nothing short of miraculous. The amount of perseverance and dedication still inspires me to this day. Looking back, I now realize that two of the finest people I know have raised me to share the same trait that I look up to in them—that is, a servant’s heart.

For this upcoming election, I will be asking each and every one of you for your vote. When elected, my primary goal will be to ensure the right decisions get made—that the citizens of Emanuel County have an individual in these positions who will fight for the best interests of the people of this County, no matter who they are. Many of you may already know who I am and many of you will likely meet me as I am knocking on doors asking for your vote. I strongly encourage each and every one of you to make your final decision based on my character and who I am as a person. I know, that when given the opportunity, you will see exactly what I am about.

I look forward to meeting you and I hope to gain your trust and vote for the positions of Probate Court Judge and Magistrate Court Judge in 2024!
