New Veterans attend WAA meeting at the library

The Veterans of the Library met Monday morning, August 8, at 9:30 a.m. at Franklin Memorial Library in the George L Smith II Room. With Johnny Tapley presiding, there were 28 in attendance. The main item discussed was the need for citizens of Emanuel County to submit the form to the library on any family veteran buried in the East Brook, Early Settlers, First Baptist and the Swainsboro City Cemeteries that are not marked as a veteran. The form has been posted on the Facebook page of the Emanuel County Veterans - Wreaths Across America.

Chair Johnny called on newest veterans that attended breakfast for the first time to tell a little about their service. William Pitts served 10 years in the U.S. Army from 1987 - 1997. He served in South Carolina, Germany, Iraq and the State of Washington. Bobby R. McCoy served in the U.S. Army and the Georgia Army National Guard from 1979 - 2000. During his over 20 years in the military, he served six years on active duty and 14 years in the Army National Guard in Company A, 878th Combat Engineer Battalion in the Swainsboro unit as a Supply Sgt and Armorer. James Carnes served in the U.S. Army from 1966 - July 1971 while four of those years were in the 5th Maintenance Battalion in the Republic of Vietnam. Bobby Reeves served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1970 - January 1974 as a JAG Officer. He was stationed in Tucson, AZ at Davis Monthan Air Force Base for two years and Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana for two years. He received an Honorable discharge in January 1974 and began law practice here in Swainsboro that same month. The Veterans of the Library welcome all veterans to come meet for coffee and breakfast every Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the library, except holiday weekends.
