Mini Banking Program helped students save money

For the 35th year, Durden Banking Company facilitated the Mini Bank Program for students in second through fifth grade at Twin City Elementary and second grade at Swainsboro Primary. Each year, the children are excited to see how much money they can save. Durden Banking Company employees love to hear how the children earned their money and what they plan to do with their savings at the end of the school year. Not being able to visit the schools since 2020 due to Covid, getting back into the schools this year was especially important. This year, sixty-six students participated and saved over $6,400 from Twin City Elementary, along with eighty-eight students who saved over $8,000 from Swainsboro Primary. Interest is paid to each participant at the end of the school year when each student withdraws their savings. Durden Banking Company’s hope is that the students will learn the value of saving money while also reinforcing basic math skills.
