Veterans meet at The Cakery

The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at The Cakery on the Square Monday, May 13, at 9:15 a.m. With Chair John Tapley presiding, they had 43 in attendance. Breakfast was served by the Cakery, consisting of sausage biscuits, donuts, cookies, cranberry juice, grape juice, orange juice and coffee. The program for the morning was by East Georgia State College student, Jayson Brown, who entertained with his saxophone. Chair Johnny then talked about the upcoming 1st Annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament set for Saturday, May 18, starting at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast at the Swainsboro Country Club and then tee time at all 18 holes will be started at 8 a.m. by a six-pounder Field Gun cannon shot by Commander Steve Burke, President of the Wiregrass Chapter Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution. Chair John talked about the Veterans Appreciation Day on Memorial Day, May 27, starting with a breakfast at the Emanuel County Medical Center at 9 a.m. and a ceremony at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
