Miss Riom Lawrence, youngest daughter of Swainsboro High School graduate Mr. Ronald Lawrence and Mrs. Leigh Lawrence from Cleveland, Ohio and the granddaughter of Rev. Richard Lawrence Jr. and Mrs. Edna Lawrence of Summertown, will play for the St. Louis Lions Water Polo Club at the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics scheduled from July 26 through July 30, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. Lawrence, 13 years old, will compete in the 14 and under division at the Junior Olympics.

In January 2023, Lawrence competed with the ODP (Olympic Development Program) SEZ (Southeast Zone) team at the 2023 ODP Regional Tournaments also held in Dallas, Texas. Due to a successful team record at the regionals, Lawrence was selected to compete with Team SEZ in March 2023 at the Girls National Championships held in Northern California. Team SEZ featured athletes from Alabama, Florida and Georgia. At the 2023 Sunshine State Games held in June, Lawrence competed with the North Atlanta Water Polo Club against several teams at the Rosen Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida. Lawrence committed to play for the St. Louis Lions at the conclusion of the Sunshine State Games.

St. Louis Lions Water Polo Club Director Mr. Rob Peglar shared that the coaching staff “are excited” to have Lawrence on their team for the Junior Olympics. In addition, Lawrence was featured on the cover of the national “Skip Shot” publication. Whenever Lawrence is not competing, she continually trains with the DYNAMO Water Polo Club in Chamblee, Georgia.
