The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, October 5, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 40 in attendance. Shari Watt provided the outstanding breakfast consisting of sausage, cheese and eggs on toast, grits and Pumpkin cake, orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, and coffee. Chair Johnny introduced Nita Hardaway who talked about the Herrington Homestead and how it provides boys and girls with a stable home life such as the Herrington's enjoyed. The boys and girls at Herrington Homestead have been assimilated into the schools, churches and community life in Emanuel County. They are involved in sports, clubs, recreational and extracurricular activities. This farming community provides the boys and girls with the unique experience of watching crops develop and grow. As the boys and girls watch the farming process, they learn the value of a strong work ethic. Outdoor living teaches them to appreciate the value of our environment. Nita also talked about the upcoming Fall Festival to be held at the Herrington Homestead Youth Campus on Saturday, October 24, from 4 to 8 p.m.
