Mrs. Betty Louise Poole Sammons, age 88, of Soperton, beloved wife of the late George C. “Coon” Sammons for sixty-five years, passed away Friday, August 19, 2022, at Summer Willow Assisted Living Center in Nunez. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 21, in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Jack and Sister Patty Stafford officiating. Mrs. Sammons was laid to rest beside her husband in the Midway Church Cemetery in Soperton.

Serving as pallbearers were Chris Johnson, Landon Johnson, Jared Sammons, Andy Johnson, Chris Braddy and Greg Warnock.

Mrs. Sammons was born in Toombs County and grew up in Treutlen County where she graduated from Soperton High School, Class of 1950. She was one of seventy-eight graduates in her class and attended the most recent class reunion. Betty married “Coon” Sammons and worked at home raising their four boys, picked cotton, handed and strung tobacco and anything else to support her family. She had a servant’s spirit and was committed to her church, helping those in need, cooking for the needy, sitting with the homebound and carrying others to appointments. Mrs. Sammons had been a faithful member of Norristown Revival Center for over sixty years. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sammons is preceded in death by a son, Cooper Sammons; and step-brothers and sisters, Leon Palmer, Wilmer Palmer, Dorothy Hardeman, Treutlen Palmer, Willis Palmer, Sport Palmer and Pete Palmer.

Mrs. Sammons leaves behind three sons, Chuck Sammons (Pam) of Rincon, Jeff Sammons (Lisa) of Nunez, and John Sammons of Soperton; grandchildren, Matthew, Benjamin, Jessica, Jared, Josh, Landon, Chris, Weston, Cooper, and Abby; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Drew, Leo, Ian, Ben, Ethan, Jack Evan, Mary Bess, Weslee, Tully, Audie, Ileigh, Asher, and Sawyer; and many nieces and nephews.

Sammons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
