Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. W. Marvin Riner Sr., age 92, of Macon, formerly of Swainsboro, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 28, at 2 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Emory Fennell officiating. Interment followed in the Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Kite. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers were Sherman Minshew, Chris Riner, Clint Canady, Brandon Canady and Braylon Riner.

Mr. Riner was born February 13, 1931, in Toombs County, to the late Martin Clinton and Eady Kersey Riner. Marvin called Swainsboro home for over 50 years. He was a tractor mechanic at Roberts-Cruce Tractor Company until it was bought by John Rountree and renamed Emanuel County Tractor Sales. Marvin continued to work for Mr. Rountree until he retired around 1993. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to a piece of property they purchased on Murder Creek near Lake Sinclair in Putnam County. They moved to Macon in 2007 to be near their children. Marvin was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling the country, gardening and being with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riner is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Julia Loyd Riner; sisters, Willie Mae Steptoe, Lucille Forehand and Louise Ireland; and brother, M.C. Riner.

Survivors include two daughters, Audrey Canady of Aurora, CO and Sheila Renee McRae (Bruce) of Byron; son, Marvin Riner Jr. (Kathy) of Reynolds; sister, Jessie Nell Johnson of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Chris Riner (Michelle), Clint Canady (Christina) and Brandon Canady (Crystal); great-grandchildren, Braylon Riner (Kalaylah), Skylar Riner, Cooper Canady, Connor Canady and Cayde Canady; great-great-grandchildren, Gage Riner and Finley Riner; nieces, nephews and extended family.
