Mrs. Mary Pitts, 96, of Twin City, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, at Treutlen County Nursing Home in Soperton following an extended illness. Funeral service was held Saturday, May 11, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Elder Willie Wood officiating. Interment followed in Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Family received friends Friday, May 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Timothy Dobson, Darin Dobson, James Parker, Cordarius Lee, David Stapleton and Blake Wilkerson.

Mrs. Pitts was born March 22, 1928, in Jenkins County, to the late Virgil Johnson and Dicie Johnson. She loved family time and get-togethers and was a great cook. Mrs. Pitts supported her husband while he served in the military. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Swainsboro, where she served for many years. Mrs. Pitts was always ready to lend a helping hand and was always there to lend you her shoulder to cry on. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Mrs. Pitts was a special lady who will be missed by so many people she touched in her lifetime. Even through all of life’s trials and tribulations, she never failed in her faith. Mrs. Pitts had many hardships close to home. She was the strongest lady we knew, never met a stranger and was always the mother figure to others. Everyone called her “Nana”. Mrs. Pitts is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Pitts; son, Jim Pitts; daughters, Nell Dobson and Mary Pierce; granddaughter, Natasha Autry; two brothers; and four sisters.

Mrs. Pitts is survived by her granddaughters, Tabitha Dobson of Wrightsville and Kathy Leigh Dobson of Swainsboro; grandson, Kade Scarboro of Plant City, FL; stepson, Henry Pitts; great-grandchildren, Jayden Scarboro, Kylee Scarboro, Ansley Scarboro, Timothy Dobson and Taylor Sherrod; and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
