Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mrs. Tommie Kay McCullough Johnson, age 78, of Swainsboro, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at her residence. Funeral service was held Tuesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Swainsboro with Rev. Jim Harrell officiating. Interment followed in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. Family received friends Monday, May 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tomlinson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Matthew Anderson, Ben Jones, Gage Afflerback, Robert Johnson and Tracy Johnson. Honorary escorts were faculty and staff of East Georgia State College, Shannon Anderson and Patrick Afflerback.

Mrs. Johnson was born February 1, 1946, in Emanuel County, to T.A. (Mac) and Mildred Abney McCullough. She graduated from Swainsboro High School Class of 1964. Tommie married the love of her life, Mr. Billy E. Johnson, and they were together for 48 years. Through her many years in Swainsboro, she was employed with Dolores & Woody’s, First Federal Savings & Loan, and retired from East Georgia College. Tommie was instrumental in the success of the family business, Maryland Fried Chicken, with her husband for 38 years. She was member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Carol Anderson; grandson, Christopher Chalker; great-nephew, Kason Anderson; and niece, Aimee Anderson.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Hope Johnson Fagler (Mike) and Misty Chalker, both of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Michael Shane Johnson of Greenville, TN, Corey Payton Chalker (Erin) of Swainsboro and Macy L. Fagler (Dylan) of Swainsboro; great-grandchildren, Reed Chalker and Jones Chalker; special brother-in-law, Gary Anderson of Sandersville; beloved niece, Windy Brantley (Ricky); beloved nephew, Shannon Anderson of TN; a number of special and loved relatives; special companion, Randy Carter; and her fur babies, Nick, Cody, Snow and Tiger.
