Mr. Robert Leon Thompson, 74, of Swainsboro, passed away, Thursday, October 10, 2024. Funeral service was Monday, October 14, held at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Harrell officiating. The family received friends Sunday, October 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Lane, Dustin Miller, Cody Copeland, Clay Floyd, Britt Claxton, Mace Henry, Randy Thompson, Lynn Nasworthy, Glenn Nasworthy, Gene Bennett, Leon Thompson, Gene Kea, Cody Hutcheson, Clint Thompson, Bobby Mason, Russell Moore and Ken Smith.

Robert was born February 16, 1950, in Swainsboro, to the late James Leon Thompson and Willie T. Ware Thompson. He is a cherished husband, father, and grandfather known for his unwavering dedication to his family and community. Throughout his life, Robert has been a pillar of strength and support for his family. He raised three children with his wife, Sandra, instilling in them the importance of kindness, respect, and hard work. As a grandfather to six grandchildren, Robert ‘Pa’ was a source of joy and wisdom, often found sharing stories of his youth or teaching them practical skills, from pecan picking to driving the tractor. Robert’s love for NASCAR kept him at several racetracks starting in 1989 where he spent time in his two buses that he worked so hard on remodeling. His devotion to his station, ‘Robert’s BP Station’ - brought many stories to the dinner table. He loved cooking barbecue at every family function, but he loved eating it with his family even more! His prized possessions were his horses, and he loved each of them dearly as they reminded him of his childhood. He was known as one of a kind - A one of a kind husband, father, and grandfather, and a dependable farmer and trustworthy hauler. He broke the mold of how great one man could be. With a heart full of love and a lifetime of memories, Robert continues to inspire those around him with his dedication, compassion, and commitment to making the world a better place. Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, James Bennie Thompson and Danny Thompson.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Sandra Thompson of Swainsboro; sons, Ben Thompson (Tammy Sutton) of Swainsboro and Bragg Thompson (Natasha Kilgore) of Hawkinsville; daughter, Tracy (Cliff) Mason of Swainsboro; brothers, Mike Thompson (Linda) of Metter, Bill Thompson (Ann) of Twin City and Elmer Thompson (Jan Snooks) of Swainsboro; sisters, Pam Smith (Dorsey), Susan Smith (Johnny), both of Metter, Lucille Braswell (Don) and Patrice Thompson, both of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Gannon Thompson, Caroline Mason, Kayanna Thompson, Kanyon Thompson, Ethan Mason and Pacey Thompson; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Flowers will be accepted, but the family strongly suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Salvation Army in memory of Mr. Robert Thompson at give.salvationarmyusa.org.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
