Last week, the Swainsboro Tigers took to the field at “The Brickyard” in Thomson for a Thursday night matchup against the Thomson Bulldogs. The game was moved from Friday due to the forecast of severe weather, with both schools deciding it was in the best interest of players, coaches, and fans to play a day earlier.
The Tigers entered the game looking for their second win of the season but faced a challenging opponent in the Thomson Bulldogs, a team that won a state championship two years ago. Despite the tough matchup, Swainsboro competed with a roster that had been affected by injuries, giving younger players more time on the field.
The game began with senior running back Quinn Brown leading the Tigers’ opening drive, but they were unable to break through the Bulldogs’ defense. Thomson responded with a quick score on their first drive.
Due to injuries at quarterback, junior Kason Edenfield and sophomore Marco Danford split time under center. The Tigers had some success in the running game, with Brown and Danford gaining yards, but the offense struggled to maintain momentum. Swainsboro’s only score came in the second quarter on a rushing touchdown by Brown. Thomson’s offense continued to add points throughout the night, ending in a 56-7 defeat for Swainsboro.
