The Swainsboro Lady Tigers flag football team bounced back strong at a Saturday showcase at Tiger Field. The event brought together Westside and TW Josey of Augusta, as well as Woodville-Tompkins, giving fans a full day of fast-paced and exciting flag football.
Earlier in the week, Thursday, October 16, was a tough day for the Lady Tigers. They played two home games and came up short, losing 0–14 to Jenkins of Savannah and 0–13 to Warner Robins. Head Coach Alexandria Walden said those games were a learning experience for the team.
“Thursday was hard, but it showed us what we need to get better at,” Walden said. “The girls came into Saturday ready to focus, work together, and play their best.”
The first game of the showcase was against Westside of Augusta. Swainsboro scored early to take the lead, showing sharp offense and solid defense. Westside fought back and stayed in the game, pushing down the field in the final seconds. With the clock running out, Westside scored a touchdown, making the score 7–6. Their conversion attempt failed, and Swainsboro held on to win in dramatic fashion.
“That first game was a real test,” Walden said. “Even when Westside made a strong comeback, the team stayed calm, worked together, and followed the plan. That teamwork is what made the win possible.”
Later in the day, the Lady Tigers played TW Josey and delivered a strong performance. The offense moved the ball well, finding openings and keeping control of the game, while the defense held tight and allowed no points. Swainsboro won 25–0, finishing the showcase with a big statement win and leaving fans impressed with their skill and teamwork.
Throughout the showcase, the Lady Tigers showed focus, communication, and discipline. Every player contributed, proving that success comes from working together as a team rather than relying on individuals. Coach Walden said the girls’ effort and attitude were what made the day a success.
Looking ahead, Swainsboro has a busy week. They will travel to face Appling County on Saturday, October 25, and then return home on Tuesday, October 28, for a doubleheader against county rival Emanuel County Institute and Portal High. The Lady Tigers hope to continue building momentum from the showcase and carry their energy into the next games.
“Our girls showed that they can handle tough situations, whether it is holding on in a close game or dominating a strong opponent,” Walden said. “They worked together, stayed focused, and played hard. TIGERNATION, come out and support the Lady Tigers as they take on another week of games. This team is growing stronger every time they hit the field.”
