The Swainsboro Lady Tigers put together an impressive three-game run last week, showing both resilience and dominance as they continued region play before closing the stretch with an emotional Senior Night in The Den.
The week began with a tight region battle at home against Savannah Country Day, where the Lady Tigers were forced to grind from start to finish. After facing an early deficit, Swainsboro settled into the game defensively and steadily worked its way back, turning the contest into a possession-by-possession battle late in the fourth quarter. With composure under pressure, the Lady Tigers executed down the stretch and secured a 51-50 victory, a win that highlighted their ability to stay poised in critical moments of region competition.
Just two days later, Swainsboro hit the road for another region matchup at Savannah Christian, delivering one of its most complete performances of the season. The Lady Tigers controlled the tempo from the opening tip, applying defensive pressure and converting efficiently on the offensive end. The result was a commanding 72-21 road victory, showcasing the team’s depth, energy, and ability to respond quickly after a close contest.
The week concluded back at home in The Den against Claxton, where the Lady Tigers once again found themselves in a hard-fought battle. Both teams traded momentum throughout the game, with defensive stops and key possessions proving crucial in the closing minutes. Swainsboro held firm late to secure a 44-42 win, demonstrating the toughness and determination that has defined the team throughout the season.
Following the game, the program paused to recognize its Senior Night honorees, celebrating the contributions and leadership of Lady Tiger seniors Jalaya Freeman, Tameeyah Kingsberry, Alyssa McGee, and Aacaylah Murphy, whose dedication has helped shape the program both on and off the court. The evening also honored SHS Basketball Cheerleading seniors Lauri Allen, Jamariya Howard, and Alajah Wesby, recognizing their continued support and spirit throughout the season.
Head coach Alexandria Walden praised her team’s response in the close contests, noting that games like these help prepare the Lady Tigers for postseason basketball.
“Close games reveal a lot about your team’s character,” Walden said. “I’m proud of how our players stayed composed and trusted each other in big moments. Our seniors have been leaders all season long. They set the tone in practice, they communicate on the floor, and they represent what Lady Tiger basketball is all about. Their impact goes far beyond the stat sheet.”
Swainsboro will close out the regular season Friday at home against Woodville-Tompkins, with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m. in The Den. The matchup marks the final region game before next week’s region tournament. The Lady Tigers enter the final regular-season contest with a 19-4 overall record, 9-2 in region play, and currently sit in second place in the region standings, positioning themselves for a strong postseason run.
