Swainsboro Kiwanis Attends Vidalia Kiwanis 100th

On Friday night, August 19, 10 members of the Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro attended the Kiwanis Club of Vidalia's 100th Anniversary Celebration at the Hawks Point Golf Club. The Vidalia chapter discussed many of the accomplishments that their chapter has made over the last 100 years including sponsoring the Annual Vidalia Onion Run's, Charter Sponsor of their local Boy Scout Troop, sponsoring at least 10 college scholarships each year, and donating a large amount to the Toombs County Library. The speaker for the evening was former University of Georgia Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker. Walker talked about growing up in Wrightsville, what his grandmother taught him, his high school football days, his UGA football days, his United States Football League days (New Jersey Generals) and his days in the National Football League. During his NFL days, he played for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and back with the Dallas Cowboys, retiring in 1997. Walker was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
