The future of Swainsboro football is shining bright after the Tigers’ junior varsity squad wrapped up an impressive 6-1 season, showcasing a group of underclassmen who played with heart, toughness, and steady growth from start to finish.

The Tigers came out strong early, setting the tone with a dominant 49-6 win over Jefferson County to open the season on August 8. From there, the momentum continued to build as they battled through a tight 14-7 victory over Toombs County, followed by a convincing 42-14 win over Vidalia.

Swainsboro showed they could handle pressure too, pulling out a thrilling 14-13 win over Toombs County in a rematch on September 4. The following weeks saw the Tigers firing on all cylinders, rolling to a 52-6 win over Metter and blanking Jefferson County 14-0 on September 18. Their only setback came in the finale, a hard-fought 28-20 loss to Dublin, but even that game showed the fight and promise of this young team.

Head Coach Roberts said this group’s growth throughout the season was something special to watch. He noted that this year’s JV squad posted the best record he can remember at that level and that their progress was evident each week. “It’s a big jump from middle school to high school,” Roberts said. “We’ve seen these freshmen steadily getting better and understanding how we do things as the year progresses.”

Much of that improvement, he added, came from the dedication of the position coaches, who not only guide the JV during the week but also serve on the varsity staff. Their attention to detail, emphasis on fundamentals, and commitment to developing relationships with the younger players helped lay the foundation for success.

Roberts believes the performance of this JV team speaks volumes about the future of the Swainsboro football program. “We have a really talented young group that we are excited about,” he said. “Once they have a full offseason program with us, we expect most of them to be big contributors next year.”

Between the explosive plays on offense, the relentless effort on defense, and the unity shown across the roster, the JV Tigers gave the Swainsboro community plenty to cheer about. More than just wins and losses, this season served as a preview of what’s to come, a glimpse of the next wave of Tigers ready to uphold the program’s proud tradition.

As Roberts put it, “It’s a special group. They’re learning how to win the right way, and that’s what builds a program.”
