Remember Election Day, Tuesday, May 21

Posted

Next Tuesday, May 21, will be another chance to see your voice and your vote count in the exercise of representative government. General Primary elections will be held to select Democrat and Republican candidates for the November general election. Tuesday will also be the general election day for a variety of nonpartisan races, although many of these do not have opposition candidates and will assume office or a new term in January 2025. In the race for District 3, Emanuel County Commission, there is no Democrat candidate. Consequently, if one of the four Republican candidates garners enough votes to avoid a run-off, they will be the declared winner on Tuesday. Candidates in that race are Vincent Nicky Alfonso, Chandra Hooks, John “Johnny” Moore, and Randy Youmans. The race for Emanuel County Board of Education, District 7 places Cathi Fredericksen against incumbent Dell Brown in a non-partisan contest. This race will be decided next Tuesday as well. The remainder of the May 21 ballot will deal with races to select Justices on the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Georgia Court of Appeals as well as poll questions from both Democrat and Republican parties. A sample ballot for Tuesday’s election is available online at emanuelcountylive.com and provides full detail of the Democrat and Republican ballot.
