Mr. Raymond Edison Riner, 79, of Swainsboro, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Memorial Health in Savannah following an extended illness. Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Tidwell officiating. Interment followed in Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Kite. Family received friends Monday, June 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Rusty Kea, Jody Womack, Greg Riner, Troy Johnson, Bubba Grimes and Mitch Stafford. Honorary pallbearers were Barney Kea, Wayne Braswell, Randy Durden, Gary Hodges, Van Vereen, Eddie Andrews, Grady Coleman, Jack Kuhnert, Steve Johnson, Gene Kea and Johnny Ray Stafford.

Mr. Riner was born April 4, 1944, in Dublin, to Albert Lawton Riner and Allegra Purvis Riner. He was a 1963 Swainsboro High School graduate, and a member of the Georgia National Guard from 1964 to 1970. Mr. Raymond was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years. He was a member of the Boggy Bottom Hunting Club. Mr. Raymond was employed by the United Parcel Service for 31 years before he retired. He loved to fish, hunt, and just be with his friends and family, and was a huge Atlanta Braves Fan. Mr. Riner is preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Riner; and brothers, Vaughn Riner and Dwight Riner.

Mr. Riner is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Bussiere Riner; son, Mitch (Donna) Riner of Richmond Hill; grandchildren, Sean Riner and Lauren Riner; brother, Alford (Linda) Riner of Kerrville, Texas; sister, Ruth Riner Patti of Hinesville; fur baby, Bell; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
