What does it mean to "pray without ceasing" and why is it important? When you pray with ceasing, you are constantly in prayer. Your thoughts and mind are constantly on God. You will be seeking him for every aspect of your life. When you are not seeking him for yourself then you will be seeking him for others. You will be petitioning him because of the condition of this world. Prayer is communicating with God. This is the way we fellowship with him. This is the way we have access to him.
So why is it important to pray without ceasing? I'm glad that you asked. Philippians 4:6 tells us, "Not to be anxious but in everything with supplication and prayer with thanksgiving, let your requests be known unto God." When you commune with God without ceasing, every aspect of your life is approved by him. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don't lean to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths." Now cool is that? How awesome just to know that because we trust him, we will go to him for counsel in everything and he will give us directions and instructions.
Why should we pray without ceasing? Because Jesus said in Luke 18:1 that, "Men ought to always pray and not faint.”
He is telling us if we pray, we will not give up. If we pray, we will not "throw in the towel". When you pray, you can "cast all your cares upon him because he cares for you" (I Peter 5:17). When you pray, take everything to the Lord.
The hymn writer said, "What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear, and a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer. O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, it's all because we do not carry everything thing to God in prayer." In the day and time, we are living in, we need to pray without ceasing. Keep the Lord on your mind for he will keep you in perfect peace if you keep your mind on him.
