During morning worship Sunday, August 27, 2023, Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Cross-Green Community honored its Senior Citizens and Retirees. The program was sponsored by the Mission Ministry using the theme “The Sweetness of Growing Old” with Isaiah 46:4 (NIV) as the chosen scripture: “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you”.
Elizabeth G. Harrison presided over the program. Others appearing on program were Dr. Elvira G. Jackson, Patricia Sanders, Dr. Barbara Jordan and Rev. Michael Thomas. While all senior citizens participated through action songs and recall, each retiree spoke to the years of service she had provided in the work force. Joanne Brinson retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years; Marion Mills retired from Emanuel Medical Center after 46 years; and Fannie Walker provided 25 years of service to Wadley Shirt Company and 28 years of service to Burke County Service Center, making her total years of service 53 years. Each retiree was presented an award, a specially designed church cup, and a rose pen.
All attendees were provided a delicious meal as they exited the front doors.
