Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 29, at 2:30 p.m. at Keas Memorial Church in Adrian with Pastor Mark Hardin officiating. Mr. Alfonso was laid to rest in the Braswell Cemetery outside Adrian on Hwy 80. Family received friends Friday, July 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sammons Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were John Webb, Larry Hutchinson, Dwayne Greer, Henry Thompson, Scott Thompson and Bobby Fountain.

Mr. Alfonso was born in Dublin to the late Donald Leo and Jacqueline Thompson Alfonso. He was the only son and the youngest of two children. Nicky grew up in Adrian and was a graduate of Adrian High School class of 1969. After high school, he graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus before enrolling and graduating from Middle Georgia State University in Cochran with his bachelor’s degree in Business. Nicky began working in the floor covering industry during high school with the late Johnny Williams. He and his wife Debby founded and operated Nick’s Carpet and Floor Covering in Adrian until his health recently declined. Over the past fifty-four years, Nicky has spent countless hours on his knees working for, and serving others, in beautifying untold numbers of homes and businesses throughout the state of Georgia. He has been a lifelong resident of Adrian, and even though he lived in the county, he supported the town of Adrian. Nicky was active in local activities, served as President of the Chamber of Commerce and was known to be vocal on local topics that he felt passionate about. He enjoyed working, whether it be flooring, preparing food plots and shooting lanes for hunters, or simply pulling his grandchildren behind his old John Deere “Elmo” in a big-discarded cardboard box. Nicky was always looking for ways to help others, through his church or any other way where he saw a need. He enjoyed picking on his flattop acoustic guitar, of which he was self-taught and very accomplished. Nicky was a lifelong Methodist and a member of the Kea’s Memorial Church.

Mr. Alfonso leaves behind his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Debby Fomuke Alfonso of Adrian; children, Vince Alfonso (Hana) of Adrian, Crystal Alfonso of Vidalia, Nathan Rutherford (Becky of Norristown, Renee’ Price (Tim) of Kite, and Ken “Bubba” Rutherford (Sherry) of Glenwood; sister, Donna Brown of Madison; nine grandchildren, Hanley Moorman, Finley Kayte Alfonso, Harrison Rutherford, Macy Price, Brooke Gay, Chase Price, Aiden Rutherford, Maddox Rutherford and Mallory Rutherford; three great-grandchildren, Lakelynn Gay, Carleigh Gay, and Violet Dowdy; and niece, Daneka Nolte.
