Lady Tigers take in WNBA action during Atlanta team-bonding trip

The Swainsboro Lady Tigers basketball team got an up-close look at the game at its highest level on September 19, traveling to Atlanta to watch the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream take on the Chicago Sky as part of a preseason team-bonding experience.

The trip gave the Lady Tigers an opportunity to step outside their own gym and experience the atmosphere of professional women’s basketball together. Watching WNBA players compete provided the young athletes with a chance to see where basketball can lead while enjoying a memorable experience with their teammates.

The game was also part of HBCU and Divine 9 Greek Night, adding another dimension to the evening. The Lady Tigers were surrounded by celebrations of Black excellence, culture, education, leadership, history and sisterhood.

For Coach Walden, attending the WNBA game was about showing her players possibilities beyond their current season. Basketball can open doors, but she also wants her players to understand the importance of who they become along the way.

The Atlanta trip allowed the Lady Tigers to laugh, fellowship and experience basketball together away from practices and games. Those moments can become important as Swainsboro prepares for a season that will require trust, communication, sacrifice and accountability from everyone on the roster.

The Lady Tigers returned home with more than memories from a WNBA game. They returned with an experience designed to strengthen their bond as teammates and show them just how far the game of basketball and the lessons learned through it can take them.
