Following an investigation involving contraband being smuggled to inmates at the Emanuel County Jail, Jesus Ferrer Jr., 20, was recently arrested on Monday, July 27, by sheriff’s deputies after allegedly being involved in the crime.

The investigation stemmed from information relayed to deputies that items such as cell phones, illegal drugs, tobacco, phone chargers, and other prohibited objects were being supplied to inmates.

According to Lieutenant Matt Lamb with Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, Ferrer was employed as a jailer at the jail for a little more than three months and was actually caught in the act of attempting to pass concealed contraband to inmates on the day of his arrest.

Ferrer was booked into the Emanuel County Jail and charged with giving convicts items without consent. He has yet to be released.
