ECI Cross Country

PattiSue Plumer once said, “Running teaches us that we are capable of so much more than we ever imagined.” That quote aptly describes the first year of a cross-country program at ECI. It wasn’t determined until just before the school year started that the school would have a team, and the coaches began recruiting athletes. With nine boys and one girl making up the high school team, the work started to help these athletes become better runners.

The team ran in several races throughout September and October, improving their individual time each week. Finally, on October 23, they traveled to Magnolia Springs State Park for the region meet. All of the hard work of the season paid off, as the boys’ team placed 2nd in the region. Jacob McBride placed second as an individual, and Pedro Garcia placed third in the region as an individual. This secured their spot at the state meet in Carrollton.

On November 3, the team ran against 25 other teams in the state and placed 18th. The athletes again proved that their hard work and dedication paid off, as they improved their personal best times.

We can’t wait to see how this team grows and improves over the next several years.
