David Gene Powell, 57, was called home to his Lord and Savior, peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children, Sunday, June 11, 2023.

He was born in Swainsboro to the late George Ann and Bobby Gene Powell and has been a resident of Waynesboro for 34 years. He worked as a Security Specialist at Plant Vogtle, Catawba, VC Summer Station and was an avid outdoorsman. David was a member of the First Baptist Church and has faithfully served in many areas. He was an active deacon, member of the security team and taught the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Ann Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Cole Powell; son, Cole Powell (Parker) of Grovetown; two daughters, Sarah Powell Griffin (Trevor) of Twin City and Hannah Powell of Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Ellie Ann Powell and Halle Cole Powell; a brother, Kevin Powell of Swainsboro; and a sister, Rhonda Powell of Swainsboro.

The family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 2:30pm Thursday, June 15 at First Baptist Church with funeral services following at 2:30pm. Dr. G. Al Wright Jr., Lifetime Friend Wade Williams and Pastor Matthew Greene will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Swainsboro, GA.

Active Pallbearers will be Jordan Walton, Rino Doricchi, Cole Powell, Trevor Griffin, Elec Wheeler, Brantley Jones, and Bill Simmons

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the security team, Sunday School class, Deacons, and Elders.

Remembrances may be made to St. Jude.
