Catherine G. Kirby, age 77, of Swainsboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 11, 2023, following an extended battle with cancer. Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. Graveside service followed at Union Primitive Baptist Church of in Swainsboro.

Catherine was born September 29, 1945, in Lyons, to Cordie and Dora Mae (Riner) Wiggins. She attended Canoochee Baptist Church and enjoyed hearing and spreading the Gospel of her Lord and Savior. Through her life, Catherine constantly helped others. She was kind, compassionate, and caring to anyone in need. Catherine had strong beliefs, no matter the situation, that everyone should have a shoulder to lean on, love, and support. She was accepting of everyone she knew. After retiring from carpentry, Catherine served Bill and Ruthie Crider as a housekeeper. In Catherine’s spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends while cooking some of the greatest southern food. She could always fry chicken and bake a cake for anyone who requested one and did so with much love. Catherine was a loving wife and mother. She and her husband, Willie M. Kirby, who passed away in June of 2000, raised five children. Ms. Kirby is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James D. Kirby; sisters, Jeanette Kirkland, Dollie Mitchell, and Shirley Coleman; and infant brother.

Survivors include her sons, Mark D. Kirby (Sheila) and Gregory A. Kirby, both of Nunez; daughters, Connie K. Beasley and Cynthia K. Folds-Bailey (Daniel “Popz”), both of Twin City, grandchildren, Charlie Z. Henry, Zeth C. K. Folds, Denton-Kade Beasley, Zhen C. E. Folds, and Daisy C. Kirby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/o Barbara Williamson, 114 Frances Avenue, Swainsboro GA 30401.

The family would like to thank the Claxton family for their devoted support during such a difficult time and they extend their sincere heart felt thankfulness to the Crider family.
