Dr. Denise Warnock, the assistant superintendent of Emanuel County Schools and a member of the Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, presented the program for the October 25 meeting. In keeping with the purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma, Dr. Warnock selected two purposes upon which to focus: to initiate, endorse, and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and women educators and to inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society.
Dr. Warnock discussed recent legislation including House Bill 538, Georgia Early Literacy Act and now a law and Senate Bill 211, also now a law, which created the Georgia Council on Literacy. These two laws along with the Senate Bill 48 on dyslexia legislation impact literacy policy and practices statewide. Dr. Warnock’s presentation informed Beta Beta members of key information that school districts are using to connect the new expectations associated with these laws in order to effectively and efficiently implement Georgia’s new K-12 English Language Arts and Early Intervention Program. The ultimate goal is to increase the literacy outcome for Georgia’s students.
