Swainsboro vs Elbert County round three Class A state tournament

The SHS Tigers jumped out early to a 17-13 lead to end the first quarter of continuing tournament play against Elbert County. The Tigers led 23-13 with 6:55 seconds in the second quarter when Elbert scored 10 unanswered points to take a 23-22 lead. Tigers scored only six points in the second quarter while Elbert county scored 15 and took the lead 28-23 at halftime.

The third quarter saw 13 points ticked off by the Tigers. Taniya Williams scored eight points and had 10 rebounds. Elbert county scored 18, nine by Anniyah Allen. With 4:50 in the 3rd, Tigers hit a 3-point shot to tie 30-30. Taniya rebounded a missed shot and scored to give the Tigers a 32-30 lead. Elbert hit a 3 point to take a short 33-32 lead, then a quick steal and basket gave Elbert a 35-32 lead with 3:24. Elbert extended the lead to 40-32 with 2:50, another steal and layup made it 42-32.

The Tigers close 36-42. Following a technical foul on the Tigers, Elbert pushed the lead to 45-36. The score at the end of the third quarter was Elbert 45 Swainsboro 36.

The fourth quarter started with a steal and layup by the Tigers 38-45. Elbert scored eight unanswered points to make the score 53-38 with 4:30 left. Tigers kept fighting and cut the lead to 44-53 with 2:50 left but could get no closer. Elbert scored 10 more points to the Tigers 5 for a final score of 63-49.

Leading scores for the Tigers were Tanyia Williams with 19 points and she had 22 rebounds, Serah Kelly scored 10 points and Hannah Howard nine.

Elbert County leading scores were #3 Anniyah Allen with 33 and #21 Niya Moon scored 11.
