The Swainsboro Tigers went undefeated last week, winning 3 games from East Laurens in their 2nd week of region play. The pitching was terrific and the hitting was timely in the 3 game sweep.
Swainsboro started the series against the Falcons on the road last Tuesday and the offense had an easy time of it against Falcon pitching. Swainsboro scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning capped off by a 2-run double by Derrick Jones. Lenox Lively got the start on the mound and dominated the overmatched Falcons. Lively pitched all 5 innings of the 12-1 victory and allowed only 1 hit. Lively also carried the offense with 3 hits and 5 RBI in the blowout win.
Swainsboro hosted the Falcons on Thursday and took a 1-0 lead into the 6th inning. The Tigers tacked on 3 more runs as East Laurens fell apart defensively. Swainsboro held on for a 4-2 victory behind Elijah Loyd’s 7 strong innings from the mound. Swainsboro only collected 4 hits on offense but found a way to get it done with runners on base.
On Friday the Tigers headed back to East Laurens where they completed the 3-game sweep as freshman Kason Palmer shut down the Falcons, allowing on 1 earned run over 7 innings. Swainsboro’s offense led 4-0 after 2 innings and the Tigers would roll to an 8-2 victory. Derrick Jones led the offense with 2 hits as Swainsboro improved to 8-12 on the season and 3-3 in region play.
The Tigers will play a 3 game set with Jeff Davis (11-8) this week and try to build on their 3 game winning streak. Tuesday’s and Friday’s game will be at home and Thursday’s game will be in Hazlehurst.
