This event introduced a new literacy tradition at the high school level, building on similar programs commonly seen in elementary schools. Students eagerly accepted the challenge and showcased impressive levels of effort, imagination, and school spirit.

For the parade, each student selected a favorite book and transformed a real pumpkin into a character or scene inspired by the story. Every entry reflected careful thought and creativity, resulting in a stunning display inside the media center. The pumpkins represented a wide variety of literary styles and themes, demonstrating the unique reading interests and artistic talents of Swainsboro High’s students.

Judges carefully reviewed the entries and announced the inaugural winners. Bella Blanford earned first place, Kaci Smith and Sadie Self placed second, and Gzourney Gardner received third place.

Media center staff expressed pride and appreciation for the outstanding participation. They noted that the students approached the project with enthusiasm and brought beloved books to life in a memorable and meaningful way. Staff members also shared that they were thrilled to see students creatively celebrating literacy while engaging in hands-on artistic expression.

They shared that this initiative supports Swainsboro High School’s commitment to promoting reading and fostering a love for literature.
