The Emanuel Retired Educators Association recently held its November meeting at Swainsboro High School on November 19. President Toney Golden welcomed members and called the meeting to order. Swainsboro High School Principal Rob Gray welcomed the group and shared some of the many exciting things happening at SHS. An invocation was given, and members enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the FFA and FCCLA and served by students of the representative organizations
State legislators Senator Max Burns and Representative Butch Parrish provided the program. The Legislators discussed items that will likely be discussed in the 2026 Legislative session including higher education affordability, incentivizing the work force for high demand careers, income and property taxes, school safety, tort reform, literacy, and health care.
One of the group’s service projects is to donate school supplies to the host school at each meeting. A variety of supplies were presented to Mr. Gray. Donuts were provided earlier in the day to the school staff as part of the Georgia Retired Educators Treats for Teachers program. The group continues to support the Sunshine Advocacy Center at each meeting. EREA also supports the Georgia Retired Educators Association project, Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
EREA wishes to thank Swainsboro High School administrators, staff, the FFA and FCCLA for the wonderful meal and for the warm hospitality they extended to the group. The next EREA meeting is set for Wednesday, January 2,1 at Swainsboro Elementary School. Mike Zarum from the Teacher Retirement System will provide the program.
