SHS Tigers Winter & Spring Sports

We are almost halfway through February. The conclusion of winter sports is occurring, and spring sports are starting to bloom at SHS. The basketball teams have concluded the regular season and will be hosting the region tournament starting on Thursday Feb 16th. The wrestling team is bringing its season to an end. Baseball, Tennis, and soccer season is underway. Here's a look at what's happening in the Swainsboro High sports scene.

Boys Varsity Basketball

The boys' basketball team got off to a slow start due mainly to several members playing on the football team. The team finished the regular season with a 9-9 record; however, they have a 5-2 region record. The Region record was good enough for first place. The Tiger's leaders are DeMello Jones, Ty Adams, Dorien Foots, Carmelo Lewis, and LJ Morgan.

Last Friday, Feb 3rd, the Tigers lost to Jefferson County 43-39. On Saturday the 4th, they defeated Metter 69-39. The leading scorers in the Metter game were DeMello Jones, 15 points; Carmelo Lewis, 14 points and Ty Adams, 10 points. On Tuesday the 7th, the Tigers defeated Claxton 54-40. In the last game of the regular season on Friday, the 10th, the Tigers defeated Bleckley County 56-41.

Girls Varsity Basketball

The Tigers girls’ team suffered a devastating blow before the season began when two-year starter and team leader Jayden Wynn sustained a season-ending ACL injury. The team has managed to overcome the loss and have an outstanding season. The return of Taniya Williams, who missed all last season, has helped the Tigers to a 14-6 record and an 8-0 region record. Tanyia is the leading scorer and rebounder. Senior Serah Kelly is next in scoring, followed by Jr Tonia Ricks, Sr Jamia Smith, and Jr Hannah Howard. The Tigers finished first place in the region and the #1 seed for the region tournament.

Last Friday (Feb 3rd), the Tigers defeated Jefferson County 57-27 and defeated Metter on Saturday 67-53. The leading scorers in the Metter game were Serah Kelly with 26 points, Hannah Howard with 18 points, and Taniya Williams with 8 points. On Tuesday, the Tigers defeated Claxton 49-43. On Friday, the Tigers defeated Bleckley County 61-30 in the last regular season game of the year.

Tigers Boys' and girls' teams will host the Region tournament starting Thursday, Feb 16th.

Varsity Soccer

On Feb 2nd, the Tigers Girls’ soccer team defeated Vidalia High school 2-1. Hope Tant and Dekota Mason scored one goal each for the Tigers.

Vidalia Boys Varsity Soccer beat Swainsboro 2 - 0 in one half of play. The match was canceled at halftime due to the weather.

On Feb 9th, the Lady Tigers defeated Bacon County 3-1

Varsity Tennis

On Tuesday Feb 7th the Tigers defeated Dublin. On Thursday Feb 9th Jeff Davis defeated the Tigers 5-0. The Jeff Davis varsity men’s team defeated the Tigers 4-1.

Varsity Baseball

On Wed Feb 8th the Tigers lost to ECI 5-0

Varsity Wrestling

The Tigers have 5 members advance to the Sectional tournament held Feb 11th. Winners in this event will qualify for the state championship to be held Feb 16-18
