SHS Tigers place first in region 2AA after defeating Jeff Davis by one point in Friday night match

Swainsboro High School Tigers traveled to Hazlehurst on Friday, October 23, to compete against the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets. The game kicked off at 7:30 p.m. and ended with a Tiger victory after the Jeff Davis team missed a field goal kick with only three seconds left to win the game. The final score was 15-14.

The two teams ended the first quarter of the game 0-0. The Yellow Jackets were able to prevent a Tiger touchdown in the second quarter of Friday night’s game and successfully scored one touchdown for the Hazlehurst team. The final score before entering halftime was 0-7.

Taking the field after a halftime performance honoring Veteran’s Day, the Tigers scored their first touchdown in the third quarter, bringing the score to 8-14. An additional Tiger touchdown was gained by the Swainsboro team in the fourth quarter.

With less than one minute remaining in the fourth quarter, the Tigers sealed the game tying touchdown points from around the 2-yard line, making the score 14-14. An extra point won after the game brought the Tiger’s victory after the Jeff Davis team missed a field goal with only three seconds left to win the game from about 15 yards from the touchdown line.

With a final score of 15-14, the Tigers claimed victory and took first place in Region 2AA.
