Lisenby speaks to Veterans

The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, September 9, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 41 in attendance. The DAR Lynn Torrance, Ann Sheppard, Carol Parrish, and Jennie Wren Denmark provided breakfast consisting of muffins and Shari Watt provided orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. After the prayer by Veteran Emory Fennell, Chair Johnny then introduced Vet John David Bailey who introduced Mike Lisenby. Mike's presentation was on the "First Continental Congress through the Treaty of Paris". The newest Veteran is Stanley Hillary Calhoun who served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968. He served in the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany and the U.S. Calhoun’s highest rank was E-4. Chair Johnny and Veteran Abe Nobles then presented Veteran and Director of the Wounded Warriors Organization, Terry Reynolds, $500 from the Veteran Bucket Fund to be used for Wounded Warriors. Veteran Terry is in charge of the upcoming 13th Annual Sportsman's Banquet and Auction that will be held at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy. 80 East in Twin City to be held Thursday night, October 10, at 5 p.m. This event will include social time, prime rib meal, silent and live auction items. All the proceeds go directly to the local Wounded Warriors group which is a Georgia Non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that gives opportunity to Wounded Veterans and their family to enjoy the great outdoors.
