The Wiregrass Chapter Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting Thursday night, September 12, at McKinney’s Pond Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. With President Steve Burke presiding, they had 19 in attendance. After the blessing, the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR, President Steve asked Registrar Dess Smith III to present a special certificate. Dess called Patrick Carr Rangers member James Roy Reeves forward and presented him with the National Society Sons of the American Revolution membership of the "Special Ops Veterans Corps". Jim has been honored with this Certificate of Patriotism for standing ready to defend the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic. As a veteran, he is authorized by the SAR to wear the War Service Medal in grateful recognition for his service to country in Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury and the Beirut, Lebanon Crisis (1983). President Steve then asked Dess to introduce the speaker for the evening, Compatriot John Derden, who presented his program, "General John Ashe, Commander of American Patriots during the Brier Creek Battle, March 3, 1779". Chaplain Emory Fennell then closed the meeting with the benediction and the SAR Recessional. © Copyright 2024 The Forest-Blade/Emanuel County Live. All rights reserved.
