Lady Dawgs Continue to Impress

The ECI Lady Dawg softball team recorded 3 more shutouts last week to improve their season record to 18-1 and 8-0 region.

Along with two region wins, the Lady Dawgs won both games in the Southeast Bulloch Diamond Day Tournament defeating Tattnall Co. 8-4 and a 1-0 pitchers’ duel against Southeast Bulloch.

With the 8-0 win against Screven Co. and the 12-0 defeat of Jenkins Co. and the two Tournament wins on Saturday, the Bulldogs have shutout 12 of their 18 opponents during the season.

The Lady Dawgs have outscored their competition during the season 155-24. They have scored 97 while allowing just 8 runs to their region opponents.

Although leading the region at 8-0, the region championship in still up for grabs. The Bulldogs have 6 region games left in the season. One is with Portal who is second in region with a 7-1 record. They also have a game left with the third place team, last year’s champion Bryan Co. with a 6-2 region record.

Coach Wimberly has got his squad playing as a team with different personnel contributing to wins each game.

The defense and the pitching duo of Charla Clifton and Sullee Boddiford allowed just 2 combined hits during the two region matchups last week.

Monday, September 13 the Bulldogs hosted undefeated Screven Co. taking down the Gamecocks 8-0.

Put the ball in play and anything can happen. The Lady Dawgs struck for 4 runs in the first inning on singles by Kesley Harper and Semya Williams along with a walk and two Gamecock errors to lead 4-0.

They added a run in the second on three consecutive singles by Jayna Kearson, Clifton and Kayanna Thompson for a 5-0 score.

With Boddiford on after a two out walk in the bottom of the third, Kearson cleared the bases with a two run shot for the freshman’s first home run of the season with ECI leading 7-0.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth inning when Lily Robertson hit a solo shot to end the game, run ruling Screven Co. 8-0.

Clifton pitched for the Bulldogs giving up just one hit in the sixth inning while striking out 12 Screven batters.

Kearson led the Bulldogs at the plate with 3 hits including a HR. Harper had two hits along with Robertson including her walk-off HR.

Wednesday, they welcomed their friends from Jenkins Co. defeating the War Eagles 12-0 in four innings.

The Bulldogs scored in every inning against the Eagles. Leading 6-0 after 3 innings the hot Lady Dawg bats put the game out of reach on a triple by Harper, doubles by Clifton and Kaylan Lamb, and singles by Stephenson, Robertson and Macy Canady. They scored 6 in the inning to make the score 12-0.

Boddiford toed the rubber allowing just one Eagle hit while striking out five.

Nine different Bulldog batters recorded hits during the four inning game. Getting multiple hits for the Bulldogs were Roberston and Canady with 2 each.

The home game against McIntosh Co. last Wednesday was cancelled due to wet field conditions and will be played at a later date.

The Bulldogs have two away games against region opponents this week. Tuesday, (yesterday) they played Bryan Co. in Pembroke and Thursday they will travel to Sylvania for a rematch against Screven Co.
