The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, January 17, 2023, at the Rustic Grille at 7:00 p.m. with President Tammy Allen presiding, and 26 in attendance including two guests. The chocolate-on-chocolate cake, donated by Edwin Canady and baked by Petite Garrett, was won by Gary Howard. The Domino's pizza donated by Domino's Pizza was won by Jane Durden. Chair Petite Garrett turned the Member Spotlight on Jill Grier Briercheck: Born in Swainsboro, she attended Swainsboro High School, graduated from Georgia Southern University with a BS in Education, and received an M.Ed. in Education from Armstrong Atlantic, Jill taught in Savannah, where she met her husband, Glenn. They moved to Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the Junior League and the DAR for over 40 years. She served on several boards and enjoyed playing bridge and the piano. She has performed in numerous dancing and ballet companies. Since moving back to Swainsboro, she has gotten involved in a few linage societies, thanks to her sister Jane Grier Durden. Her favorite candy bar is the Hershey bar. The program for the evening was hosted by Gary Howard, who introduced Past Kiwanis Governor Byron Mullican. Byron recognized members of the Club who had been presented with the Governor's Leadership Medallion and presented 2023 Leadership Medallions to Dianna Wedincamp and Petite Garrett. He also noted the dates for submission of the Kiwanis Club Signature Project (Jan. 27), the Kiwanis Reading Across Georgia (Jan. 19), Mid-Year Training (Apr. 15 in McDonough), the Art and Music Showcase (Apr. 22 in Gainesville), the Kiwanis International Convention (June 21-24 in Minneapolis), and the Georgia Kiwanis District Convention (Aug. 25-27 in Savannah). He encouraged the club to work to continue being a Distinguished Club and to send delegates to the conventions because of critical issues like potential dues increases this year.
