Juniors at SHS were honored for their academic accomplishments in the honors program held on Tuesday, May 12. A member of the class of 2027, Carly Jersey, provided the welcome.
Students were recognized for participating in dual enrollment at Georgia Southern University-East Georgia Campus and for maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher: Rileigh Andrews, Brylee Beasley, Molly Bird, Grayson Brassell, Lexsy Brown, Dei’Vion Davis, Kyleigh Hostilo, Carly Jersey, Zaylin Lee, Lillian Mason, TJ McCullough, Daylan Riner, Emma Sconyers, Kaderiyounna Simmons, Maci Sumner, Emilio Talledo, and Ariel Tapley.
Several students were also recognized for participating in dual enrollment during the first year of the new EDGE College and Career Academy located on the campus of Southeastern Technical College. The students are: Quin’Tasia Boynton, Kalind Campbell, KaDasia Coleman, Brent Cox, Eden Drew, Hannah Grant, Reese Hadden, Paige Hooks, Janarah Howard, Kaitlyn Jones, Kasee Lawson, Aryah Lowe, Promise McLendon, River Moxley, Kailey Phan, Erin Rackins, Luiz Ruiz-Castano, Jayden Wilkerson, Aiden Wilkinson, Aidan Williams, and Landon Woods.
Katelyn Kersey was recognized for being selected to participate in the Foundation for Rural Service Youth Tour through Pineland Telephone Cooperative.
Three students were named school nominees for the Governor’s Honors Program: Grayson Brassell for Music (brass), Maci Sumner for Communicative Arts, and Gi’Zyria Kirkland for Social Studies.
Alastoria Eskew was recognized as the 11th-grade winner of the Young Georgia Authors writing competition.
Students in the top 10% of the junior class were awarded University of Georgia Certificates of Merit: Molly Bird, Grayson Brassell, Cameron Cummings, Dei’Vion Davis, Carly Jersey, Malyiah Jones, Gi’Zyria Kirkland, Zaylin Lee, Lillian Mason, TJ McCullough, Alleson Price, Daylan Riner, Emma Sconyers, Kaci Smith, Maci Sumner, Emilio Talledo, and Ariel Tapley.
Two students were recognized for participation in the Superintendent Student Advisory Council: Lexsy Brown and Dei’Vion Davis.
Five students were inducted into Beta Club: Alastoria Eskew, Carlos Pacheco, Luis Ruiz-Castano, Ariel Tapley, and Lilly Wheeler.
Students were also recognized for earning the highest averages in their respective subject areas during the school year.
In English Language Arts, awards were presented to Rolan Riner for Literature & Composition III, Dahlia Nelson for Honors Literature & Composition III, and Emma Sconyers for Spanish III.
Math awards were presented to Arlener Cuyler for Advanced Algebra and Dei’Vion Davis for Honors Advanced Algebra.
In Science, Emilio Talledo earned recognition for Physical Science, while Carly Jersey received the award for Honors Chemistry.
Social Studies awards were presented to Kailey Phan for U.S. History and Gi’Zyria Kirkland for Honors U.S. History.
Students recognized in CTAE, Physical Education, and Fine Arts included Grayson Brassell for Intermediate Band, Derek Hughes for Weight Training, Molly Bird for Visual Art IV, Rileigh Andrews for Basic Agriculture, Maci Sumner for Ag Mechanics II, Kaci Smith for Nursery & Landscape, Molly Bird for Introduction to Culinary Arts, Carly Jersey for Culinary Arts I, Cheyanne Boyd for Culinary Arts II, Tyler Young for Engineering Concepts, and Aiden Williams for Engineering Applications.
JROTC students were recognized for the following merits: Malyiah Jones for LET 1 Bravo and Alastoria Eskew for LET 3 Alpha. Eskew was also named Cadet of the Year.
Yearly Honor Roll recognition is for students who maintain an average of 90 or above with no grade below an 80 for any grading period during the year.
