For many generations, Brandon Jones’ family has been committed to the betterment of education in our community. Jones himself is a proud alumnus of ECI and an honor graduate from the class of ’96. He then attended Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville for his freshman year, where he lettered in baseball. Jones then returned home and attended East Georgia College. Upon graduation, he studied at Georgia Southern University and obtained a BBA in Business Management in 2000.
In 1998, Jones began his 25-year career at UPS as a preloader, unloading trailers in Swainsboro. Over the next several years, he continued to advance at UPS and worked his way up through the ranks to become the Business/Center Manager in Savannah and Waycross, as well as Ocala and Leesburg, FL. He currently leads the UPS facilities in Statesboro and Swainsboro. Jones has received many awards in the areas of safety, service, and operational efficiencies throughout his UPS career. For 10 years in Florida, he represented UPS on the Congressional Awareness Committee and was assigned to meet quarterly with US Congressmen Cliff Stearns and Ted Yoho on behalf of the company.
Jones’ commitment to service began at a young age. He served as the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 205 from 2001 to 2004. That’s also the troop where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1995. While living in Ocala, Brandon coached youth baseball for his son’s teams for many years. He served on the Board of Directors for Ocala Highlands Baseball for eight years and as president for three years. In those positions, Jones helped ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all players and teams. Since returning home in 2017, Jones and his family have been faithful members of Twin City Methodist Church where he is the Pastor-Parish Relations Chairman. He is an active member of the Twin City Lions Club where he served as the Vice-President and is currently the President of the club. Jones is a member of the Twin City Development Authority and on the board of the Twin City – Coleman Cemetery.
Jones’ family commitment to education in the community goes back to his great-great-grandfather, James E. Cowart, who founded ECI by riding around on his horse and buggy to get donations to start a school for the children of Graymont and Summit, as Cowart knew the importance an education plays in a person’s life and the pivotal role a school plays in its community. Jones’ great-grandmother, Pearl Cowart Proctor, was the first graduate of ECI and his grandmother, Mildred Proctor Jones, was a teacher at ECI. Jones’ parents, the late Albert Jones and Carol Jones, were both retired educators with 30 plus years of experience. His sister, Alison Jones Smoyer, has taught for 28 years in Emanuel County, and his wife, Tosha, has taught at Portal Elementary School for 24 years.
Brandon and Tosha share six children: Shaina Edwards, Reid, Braxton and Cayden Jones, Madeline and Emma Johnson, and two grandchildren, Shelby and Isaac Edwards. Jones and his family’s commitment to education and love of community have been evident for over a century. He has demonstrated a commitment to serve his community for many years.
