Georgia Southern Golden Eagles Athletics has announced the hiring of Justin Gray to fill the new position of Assistant Athletic Director of Administration and Communication. Gray began his role officially on June 1.
Gray is a Swainsboro, Georgia native, East Georgia State College graduate and has a unique connection to the community. Prior to starting at Georgia Southern-East Georgia, he served as a teacher at Swainsboro Middle School from December 2025 to May 2026, where he coached both the middle school and high school teams.
In addition to coaching, he comes from a rich background of sports, including serving as the sports editor for the Augusta University’s student newspaper The Bellringer and social media coordinator for the men’s basketball team.
On top of his time with basketball, Gray worked in the athletic department at Augusta, from technical writing to play-by-play broadcasting.
Beyond Augusta University, Gray has been a sportswriter for several companies, including The Forest-Blade and The Augusta Press. While in college, he worked in operations for CBS Sports during the 88th and 89th Masters tournaments.
Gray holds an Associate of Arts from East Georgia State College and a Bachelor of Science in communication from Augusta University.
“It’s surreal to get this opportunity and to get into athletics in my hometown and at a college that is special to me,” said Gray. “I know and love the people in this town and am thrilled to help connect this campus to the community, as it was originally intended.”
