The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, August 20, at the Rustic Grill at 7 p.m. With President Cheryl Goodman presiding, they had 21 in attendance with three guests, Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz, Johnny Tapley and Dr. Jacob Funk. A Leanna's strawberry cheesecake donated by Cassie McIntyre was won by Johnny Tapley. Paul Cerpovicz won the Domino’s pizza donated by Domino's, Cassie McIntyre won a jar of Paul Cerpovicz’ greenwood honey, and Jim Clapham won a yard decoration provided by Dianna Wedincamp. The program was hosted by Cayla Scarboro who introduced Dr. Jacob Funk, a recent addition to the medical staff of East Georgia Health Care. Dr. Funk is a Chiropractor, recently relocating to Swainsboro from Colorado, to help provide better care through an integrated health care experience at the EGHC Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic. Dr. Funk discussed Chiropractors as complementary and alternative medicine health care providers who treat conditions affecting the body's musculoskeletal system, including bones, muscles, ligaments, and nerves. They focus on helping the body heal itself through a variety of non-invasive, drug-free treatments. He often performs spinal adjustments to improve spinal motion and function, using his hands or a small instrument to apply force to a spinal joint. This can increase blood flow and nerve conductivity to the joints and muscles, which can help relieve pain. Adjustments can also help improve range of motion in joints that are restricted or not moving properly. He also noted they use stretching, exercise therapy, and massages in their treatments. Dess Smith introduced Johnny Tapley who gave us a short presentation on Wreaths Across America. The local Veterans at the Library group, along with the DAR and SAR, will join with other community groups to place as many wreaths as they can on veteran’s graves in the 168 cemeteries in Emanuel County. The Swainsboro Kiwanis Club presented a $500 check to Johnny to help support the program.
