Doyal arrested in shooting

On Friday August 23, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., officers of Swainsboro Police Department were dispatched to an address on North Main in reference to shots fired. The address led officers to the North Side Beverage area. On arrival, officers located a black male lying on the ground that had been shot multiple times. Officers' response time to the scene was less than a minute and they immediately began to render aide. According to witnesses and information gathered at the scene, officers determined that a physical altercation (fight) had occurred between the victim and others standing outside of the store.

The victim, later identified as Rashawn Richards, age 37, of Swainsboro, was removed from the scene by medical staff and was later air lifted to a hospital in Macon. Officers and Investigators began searching for the suspect which led to the arrest shortly after the incident of Jammal Rasheem Doyal, age 18, of Swainsboro. Doyal was charged with aggravated assault and transported to the Emanuel County Jail.

The last information received by Swainsboro Police Department was that the victim, Mr. Richards, had undergone two surgeries and was ruled in stable condition.
