STC Fish & Wildlife Management student, Landon Pickle, demonstrates chainsaw cutting and safety techniques. First semester Welding students in Chris Cumbee’s class learned first hand what a “flipped classroom” is all about. ECI graduate John David Durden II was selected by the Boston Red Sox today during the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft. He was drafted in the 20th round as the 611th overall pick. A Midville native, Durden will depart for Fort Myers, Fla., either Saturday or Sunday for rookie ball. Look for a full report in next Wednesday’s edition of The Blade. The case of State of Georgia versus Phillip Scott Kirby Sr. resumed this morning in the Toombs County Courthouse. The defendant faces charges of malice murder and felony murder. Jamie Jones, crime scene specialist with the GBI at the time of Emily Pestana-Mason’s murder in April 2002, took the stand this morning. Walt Mason is expected to testify this afternoon or tomorrow. The Honorable Judge Kathy S. Palmer is presiding.

Darcy Kanen Thompson, age 24, of a Swainsboro address, has ben arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of Tyrone Cochran, Jr. Following a tip regarding his whereabouts, Thompson was apprehended in Statesboro by the Statesboro Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He will be transported back to the Emanuel County Jail.

According to Emanuel County Sheriff J. Tyson Stephens, on Monday, February
13th, 2017 at approximately 3:45pm, deputies from the Treutlen County
Sheriff’s Office intercepted a bobtailed tractor trailer truck previously
reported stolen in neighboring Laurens County on Interstate 16 traveling
eastbound. 

Treutlen deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle and
the driver refused to stop. The pursuit led into Emanuel  County, where
