Burke speaks to Wiregrass

The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting Thursday night, April 11, 2024, at McKinney Pond Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. With President Steve Burke presiding, there were 28 in attendance including 12 guests. After a great supper consisting of fried shrimp, French fries, hushpuppies, salad and drink, President Steve called on Registrar Dess Smith III to present five Chapter Flag Streamers to Watson Mosley, the Sgt-at-Arms, awarded by the Georgia Society: Chapter Education Outreach Streamer, Distinguished Chapter Award, Georgia Society Membership Award. Also presented were the Elijah Clarke Heroes of the Hornets' Nest streamer and the 245th Battle of Kettle Creek Streamer. President Steve then called on Dess to introduce the speaker for the evening. Dess introduced President Steve who presented his program on "Patriot Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox". Brigadier General Francis Marion was an American military officer and politician who served during the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. During the American Revolution, Marion supported the Patriot cause and enlisted in the Continental Army, fighting against British forces in the Southern theater of the American Revolutionary War from 1780 to 1781. Marion’s use of irregular warfare against the British led him to be considered as father of guerrilla and maneuver warfare.
