Wedincamp updates Kiwanis

The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday, January 27, at the Emanuel County Library at 12 p.m. With President Dianna Wedincamp presiding, they had 11 in attendance including four guests, Cayla Williams, Destiny Wilcher, Jae Tarver and Shakeria Lewis. Tim Goodman won the cheesecake, and Wanda Ellis won the Domino’s pizza. President Wedincamp gave an update on The Division 17 Rally that took place on January 24 at the Statesboro Kiwanis Club Fairgrounds. They had seven Swainsboro Kiwanis Club members attending along with some EGSC Circle K students, and their families and friends. Circle K President Eddie Hudson and Vice President Destiny Wilcher received Mel Hayden Medallions for outstanding service and leadership. Kayla Williams and President Dianna updated some activities of the library. The Spring Fundraiser is a Daddy/Daughter Dance scheduled for February 28, at the Georgia Southern University-East Georgia Campus (GS-EG-Swainsboro) student gym. The GS-EG Circle K is the co-sponsor. Kiwanis will make cotton candy on the day before the dance and will provide popcorn on the day of the dance. In addition, participants will be given a lighted rose and can purchase teddy bears. More information will be coming.

Kiwanis have been asked to help with the painting and decorating of fire hydrants in a project to involve reading in the lower grades and decorating the fire hydrants to highlight the chosen books. The project will involve the coordination of the City of Swainsboro, the Kiwanis Club, Family Connection, Keep Emanuel Beautiful, the Swainsboro Fire Department, the Art Guild, and the Emanuel Arts Council.
