The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, January 20, at the Emanuel County Library at 6:30 p.m. With President Dianna Wedincamp presiding, they had 10 in attendance including two guests, Jimmy Wedincamp and Seaborn Roberts. Jimmy Wedincamp won the chocolate items basket and Cheryl Goodman won the Domino’s pizza. The program was presented by President Dianna who gave an update on several upcoming club projects, outdoor lighting issues at the library, helping with painting the city fire hydrants, and the Daddy/Daughter Dance. The Spring Fundraiser is a Daddy/Daughter Dance scheduled for February 28 at the Georgia Southern University-East Georgia Campus student gym. The GS-EG Circle K is the co-sponsor. They will also have the assistance of the local Art Guild to decorate. Cotton candy and popcorn will be provided. In addition, participants will be able to purchase lighted roses and teddy bears. The cost will be $25 per person, and they will provide a meal. More information will be proved later.
Kiwanis have been asked to help with the painting and decorating of fire hydrants in a project to involve reading in the lower grades and decorating the fire hydrants to highlight the chosen books. The project will involve the coordination of the City of Swainsboro, the Kiwanis Club, Family Connection, Keep Emanuel Beautiful and the Emanuel Arts Council. They will be meeting with the Library Board to discuss options to solve some of the outdoor lighting issues at the library.
It was noted that more and more groups are now meeting at the library, so Kiwanis will meet with the Swainsboro City Administration and others to discuss some options to make the lighting compatible with city lighting.
If you are interested in joining the Kiwanis Club, please call President Dianna Wedincamp at 478-494-1547. They meet twice a month on the first and third Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Swainsboro Library with a meal, and you can join at a special rate.
